Always keep your hooks sharp. Remember that hook sizes get smaller as the size number increases. Bigger hook (smaller number) are for large fish like bass or catfish. Smaller hook (larger Numbers) are good for sunfish.




Buy or Rent a quality rod and spin cast reel. Even though most new reels come with a line already attached or included try to use a light line -4-8 lb. test




Try to match your hook and bait to the size for the fish you are try to catch




If you want to release the fish after you caught it , wet your hands and cautiously unhook the fish. Then place the fish back into the water. If the fish has swallowed a hook: cut the line close to the mouth and place the fish back into the water. The stomach acid will dissolve the hook.




Always net the head of the fish first




Protect yourself and family members from sunburn, rashes, heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Try to stay hydrated and remember, you will be sitting outside and possibly in the direct sunlight.. You'll be surprised at the amount of water you may need to make up for all that sweating outside.




Be certain to apply waterproof sunscreen before you leave the house & throughout the day. Hats are good for additional sun protection too.




You will be sitting! So, a seat cushion might be a good idea.
